What’s the difference between the Sensations and Connoisseurs tours?

The Sensations tour is a one or two day tour to either one or two of SA’s finest wine regions. The tour includes the sumptuous grazing menu served on board throughout the day. The menu features local and seasonal produce including products from Barossa Farm Produce (Saskia Beer), Barossa Valley Cheese Company and Angaston’s famous Schulz butcher, to name a few.

The Connoisseurs tour is the ultimate in food and wine matching. Experience the wines of five specialist wine makers, enjoy a wine tasting and a dish created especially to match one of that wine makers finest. At Rieslingfreak you’ll have Riesling match, at Turkey Flat it’s a Rose/Grenache, while at Standish Wine Company you’ll experience fine Shiraz.
(Please note the wineries selected for this tour are subject to winemaker availability. An alternative winemaker and wine selection will be made if the winemaker is not available).

What is the grazing menu?

The grazing menu is a sumptuous menu served en-route throughout the Sensations day tours. The menu features local and seasonal produce including products from Barossa Farm Produce (Saskia Beer), Barossa Valley Cheese Company and Angaston’s famous Schulz butcher, to name a few.

How long do you recommend for a tour?

I recommend tours of one or two days – this will give you enough time to experience one of South Australia’s top wine regions. If you would like to experience more regions please check out our multi region tours.

How far are the regions from Adelaide?

The Barossa Valley is approximately 1 hour north of Adelaide, the Clare Valley is two hours north of Adelaide and an hour from the Barossa Valley. McLaren Vale is just less than an hour to the south of Adelaide, while the Adelaide Hills is 30 minutes from Adelaide city and 45 minutes from the airport.

Which regions would you recommend for lovers of particular varietals of wine?

Each of the wine region produces both great whites and red wines. The Barossa Valley is well known for its Shiraz, Grenache and Riesling and the Clare Valley produces great Rieslings and Cabernet. Enjoy Shiraz and Italian varietals at McLaren Vale and Sparkling Whites, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir in the Adelaide Hills.

Can we visit some of our favourite wineries on our tour?

Yes, absolutely. Let me know which wineries you would like to visit and I will incorporate them into your itinerary.
Some of my favourites in the Barossa Valley are Yalumba, Langmeil, Rockford, The Willows, Two Hands and perhaps less well know Yelland and Papps and Izway wines.

In the Clare Valley I enjoy Kilikanoon, Pikes, Paulett or lesser known Tim Mitchell – the views of the Valley from O’Leary Walker Wines are just stunning.

D’Arenberg is a must in McLaren Vale and Primo Estate offer great olive oil alongside their great wines. For a quirky experience I recommend Samuels Gorge and for something just a little more off-beat Alpha Box and Dice.

In the Adelaide Hills you can’t go past Shaw and Smith with their stunning views, or lunch at The Lane. Pike and Joyce and the very boutique Sam Scott Wines are some of the selections available in this amazing cool climate region.

We prefer smaller artisan wineries, can you recommend some?

Yes, I enjoy great relationships with many of the smaller artisan wineries and would be happy to recommend some hidden gems off the beaten track to suit your particular tastes and to also challenge your palate.

How many wineries do you suggest we visit during our day tour?

For you to truly immerse yourself in one a region and take in its wines, we recommend visiting between 4 and 5 wineries on a day tour. The day is yours and the tour will evolve at your pace.

Do you cater for family groups?

Yes, let me know the ages of your family and I can tailor a tour to suit. Some wineries have some truly great areas for children to enjoy too.

Do you pick up and drop off at accommodation?

I sure do. I will pick you up at the arranged time, you can enjoy your day wine tasting and I will then return you to your bed for the night, whether you are staying in one of the regions, or in Adelaide.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

It’s my aim for you to have a thoroughly enjoyable day sampling the wine and food of the region. If you have any dietary requirements I need to take into consideration, please let me know at the time of booking.

What time do your tours start and finish?

Day tours – I recommend 10am start in the Barossa or 9.30am pick up in Adelaide. The tour will end at 5pm-ish.

Half day tours are available in the Barossa Valley only – I suggest from 12 noon until 5pm-ish.

Do you cater for larger groups?

I use a min-bus for groups of up to 10 people Discuss with me your personalised itinerary for larger groups.
